We have all been there! A lazy morning, brain not braining. So, just copy paste the the content as it is from one platform to another!!! Call the content police, because your brand just got robbed off precious positioning advantages.
If you're copy-pasting your Instagram posts to LinkedIn, you're not repurposing, you're committing content malpractice.
The client who thought he’d cracked social media
I once worked with a client who was absolutely convinced he’d figured out social media.
He’d tell me things like,
“The moment I hit ‘publish,’ my content pops off.”
Naturally, we started with a content audit.
Instagram? Crushing it.
Engagement? Off the charts.
Growth? Solid.
But LinkedIn?
Dead.
Like a graveyard at 2 a.m.
And the reason?
He was taking the exact same Canva carousels, pastel quotes, and bite-sized captions — and dropping them into LinkedIn like they’d magically work there too.
They didn’t.
LinkedIn didn’t care about “aesthetic.”
It wanted substance.
It wanted stories, smart takes, and tangible value — not eye candy from another app.
My first feedback?
Platform ≠ Strategy.
Every social platform is a different dinner party.
You wouldn’t wear a tux to a backyard BBQ.
And you definitely wouldn’t quote TikTok trends at a room full of venture capitalists.
(Okay, once it worked — but that’s a story for another time.)
So we rebuilt his entire content strategy.
Behind-the-scenes posts.
Narratives.
Tactical breakdowns.
Client stories.
The full treatment.
A few weeks later, he messaged me:
“I’m finally being treated like an authority not just another influencer.”
How to tailor content with intent?
Let’s break it down by platform — same message, different wrapper:
LinkedIn = Authority, Narrative, Insight
-
Speak like someone who’s lived it, not just Googled it.
-
Teach through stories, not quotes.
-
Build trust before you pitch.
Instagram = Visual, Emotional, Personal
-
Prioritize design, energy, and identity.
-
Let visuals draw them in, then layer on insight.
-
Personal stories > polished perfection.
TikTok = Raw, Fast, Relatable
-
Show the process, not just the polish.
-
Be the character, not the narrator.
-
Win attention in the first 3 seconds.
Twitter/X = Fast Takes, Clear POVs, Real-Time Relevance
-
Distill your thoughts into frameworks.
-
Lead with your point of view.
-
Be memorable in 280 characters or less.
Content isn’t king. Context is.
Without context, even your smartest post is just digital wallpaper.
Before you hit publish, ask yourself:
“Is this made for the platform or just dumped on it?”
Because if it’s not tailored with intent, it won’t travel with impact.
